Follow-up for fans of artist Susan C. Price

Her gallery show runs through July 22

By Moristotle

Artist Susan C. Price’s participation in a gallery show, announced here on June 10, has been of great interest in the Los Angeles area. A June 29 post on Form Function Style’s Facebook page included the photo shown above of “the always entertaining artist Susan C. Price discussing her work at the FIG Gallery show opening.” Susan herself ever modestly describes the photo as “of me serving vino and pretzels in front of my work.”
The show runs through July 22, the day of a summer festival at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, California, and many art galleries in the area will be open. Bergamot Station, which now houses a large number of art galleries, was a railroad station from 1875 to 1953, serving the Los Angeles and Independence Railroad and later the Santa Monica Air Line.

Some words about the FIG Gallery, which we failed to include in June: It was formed by artists and art professors who wanted an opportunity to show their work, where few such opportunities availed in traditional commercial galleries that tend to be driven by sales and will not continue to show the work of an artist who doesn’t sell, or that might say to an artist, “Um, the blue ones seem to sell, make more of those.” Some artists do not deal well with being told what to make or paint.

Do remind your friends in the Los Angeles area that Susan’s paintings will still be on show through July 22, in case they might like to check out the show:
Alice..to the moon 5.16.2017 (30" x 36")

Avery, Yar 2017 (30" x 30")

Plus, as our June 10 announcement suggested, Susan will have a solo show next July. Good on you, Susan!

And have you read Eric Meub’s sonnet “Me” today? I encourage those who read “Me” last year to read it again today. It’s another opportunity to puzzle over the significance of the line, “Imagine the safaris I can buy us.” What might the narrator do in Los Angeles that would enable her to afford safaris? Whoever she’s talking with seems to have some control over where she lives. Who might that be?
Like so many of Eric’s poems, especially those in his column “Poetry & Portraits,” this sonnet was inspired by Susan’s drawing that accompanies it.
