“Acts of Love” Honorably Mentioned

By Moristotle

Acts of Love,” my entry for the State Library of North Carolina Accessible Books & Library services 2022 Writing Contest, did not place among the winners, but it did receive an honorable mention, for which I am grateful.
“Acts of Love” had nowhere near the substance of 2021’s resolute march through the rugged terrain of philosophical argument, so I did not expect a repeat of last year’s report that “‘Goines On’ Goes On to Win [the] State Library of North Carolina 2021 Writing Contest.” I suppose that the desperate meta-fictional twist I pulled off in “Acts of Love” captured an honorable mention by virtue of its “creativity” (the statement shown below lists the qualities the judges look for).
For the 2023 contest, I hope Artesia will help me write something both creative and impactful….

[Recorded readings of the announced winners and honorable mentions will be available in a few weeks, and, as I did last year (“‘Goines On’ Now Available in Audio”), I will again share the links.]

June 2026:  For the 2023 contest, I entered a poem I modeled on the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas’  villanelle “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night.” I gave it the title “Feel the Deep Sadness of the Coming Night.” Like “Acts of Love,” it received an honorable mention.
It is included on p. 78 of my 2025 collection Musings & Perusings: A Moristotle Reader.

    1. Thank you, Eric. The best part of being at least mentioned I’d that they record Florence Nash (I hope it’ll be her again) reading your submission. I look forward to hearing her voice.
