Goines On:
Stand by for Halloween

Goines’ went to sleep Thursday night with some lines of limerick about the end of Trump bouncing around in his head. Once or twice, while peeing, he toyed with the wording, but nothing was clicking.
He was heartened, then, upon arising on Friday, when Mrs. Goines rushed back into the bedroom with her iPhone raised. “Look at this! Trump has contracted Covid-19!”
Goines’ first thought was that he could comment on Moristotle’s “Four Years Ago Today” column – another malady:
Viral Trump – truly viral now – is wobbling;
that the one he loves most has to go hobbling.
His proud boy ghosties now stand back,
less close by – they do not want the hack –
fearing the touch of the babbling goblin.
_______________
October 4:
Viral Trump is truly viral now – he’s wobbling,
the one he loves the very most is hobbling.
Proud boys stand back to dodge contagion,
but stand by to start their guns a-blazing
when call croaks forth from the flailing goblin.

  1. Viral Trump in the hospital wobbling,
his bobble head no longer bobbling--
and who is at his side doing Twitter?
No one cause he gives his aides the jitters--
so today silence cause he can't squabble.

But you know what? I like your version a lot.

    1. Thank you, Mr. Brownstein. I admire your work overboard, and it drenches any poor effort of mine that I might hazard at verse. I am still not satisfied with my limerick’s rhythm; it’s still too clunky, despite literally dozens of tweakings over not enough days.

  2. So president Trump met the coronavirus nineteen
guess it didn't matter wiping your insides with Mr. Clean
nor did the malaria cure work out in the end
I guess it wasn't fake news or play pretend:
put a mask on, that works, not bleach with sunscreen

  3. When you won't wear a mask and you breathe
and then you deceive, deceive, deceive,
    don't be alarmed, Mr. Trump,
    when you the great thump
cause what you put out, you'll receive
