Geez! What gives?

When I revised yesterday's post slightly just now, and Blogger confirmed the action, I was startled to see displayed to the right by Google the concentrated advertising:
  • The Shepherd Project
    Cutting edge Christian speakers,
    including Craig A. Smith
    www.shepherdproject.com
  • Meet Christian Singles
Find Your Christian Soul Mate Here.
Join Now For Free & Find Your Love!
    ChristianMingle.com
  • God Loves You
Here is a Prayer That Can Change Your Life
    www.Jesus2020.com
  • † Play Jesus Songs Now †
† Learn to Play All Your Favorite †
† Jesus Songs in Record Time †
    www.gospelguitarcourse.com
Is this just an artifact of Google's sophisticated (if mis-) direction of advertising, or are Jesus and God pursuing me (like hounds of heaven perhaps)?

  1. LOL you could suggest to google they make their ad engine more sophisticated. Though there probably aren't many aethesit groups to show you ads for. Maybe "american aetheists" (aetheists.org).

    About American Atheists
Since 1963, AMERICAN ATHEISTS has been the premier organization laboring for the civil liberties of Atheists, and the total, absolute separation of government and religion. It was born out of a court case begun in 1959 by the Murray family which challenged prayer recitation in the public schools. That case – Murray v. Curlett – was a landmark in American jurisprudence on behalf of our First Amendment rights. It began:

"Your petitioners are Atheists, and they define their lifestyle as follows. An Atheist loves himself and his fellow man instead of a god. An Atheist accepts that heaven is something for which we should work now – here on earth – for all men together to enjoy. An Atheist accepts that he can get no help through prayer, but that he must find in himself the inner conviction and strength to meet life, to grapple with it, to subdue it and to enjoy it. An Atheist accepts that only in a knowledge of himself and a knowledge of his fellow man can he find the understanding that will help lead to a life of fulfillment."

  2. Pineapple Girl, thanks for this. A group that derives from Madalyn Murray O'Hair is pretty iconic!
But there are quite a few "atheist sites." They probably don't use Google ads because they aren't so proselytizing as the religious (except for those atheists who tend to be "religious" about their atheism!).
I think it curious that "atheists" is capitalized in the judicial characterization of the petitioners.
And I take issue with the idea of an "atheist lifestyle," especially its including the attitude that life is something to "grapple with" and "subdue."
Also, I'd add subject matter to "knowledge of himself and...fellow man" required to "find the understanding that will help lead to a life of fulfillment." I think that too anthropomorphic.
