A winter’s day in Fremantle

Small town in the city

By Vic Midyett

Yesterday morning was a rather warm winter’s day in Fremantle, Western Australia – in the high 60’s F – and it had been raining off and on and cloudy for several days, so Shirley and I went into the city just to goof around in the sun.
In the middle of the central business district the local government has built a rather large chess board, which anyone can use to play a game any time they want. Two gentlemen today were doing just that, at about 2 p.m.
Very few people were hanging around. A city can still have a small-town attitude.

  1. The chess pieces would be gone after the first night here. They would show up like gnomes in flower beds. We on the other hand have had a cooling off for the last couple days. It is only going to be 89 today. Next week they are calling for 92/98/99 and maybe if we are lucky 100. Stay warm cus.
