Christopher Hitchens is dead. Long live Christopher Hitchens*

Christopher Hitchens died yesterday, the day after I noted that he insisted he was living with cancer, not dying of it. Technically, he died of pneumonia, according to his obituary in The New York Times.
His intellectual throne will not be empty. It will yet awhile be occupied by his published works and memories of him in the minds of his many friends and associates.
_______________
The King is dead. Long live the King is...a traditional proclamation made following the accession of a new monarch...The phrase arose from the law...that the transfer of sovereignty occurs instantaneously upon the moment of death of the previous monarch...The throne shall never be empty; the country shall never be without a monarch.
