Goines On: Free offer
for Trump supporters

During a spell of malaise two weeks before the U.S. election, Goines found himself bemused by the surfeit of yard and roadside campaign posters. While he was developing an intense dislike for campaigning – all the lies, the vicious attacks, the distraction from trying to save life on Earth from the coming climate cataclysm – he did feel encouraged by the energy that people were injecting into the activity. Why couldn’t he inject a little into it?
Okay, then. Goines thought of a variation for the Trump/Pence signs he was seeing. He logged onto his computer, found a useful example of the sign from among the plethora on offer on the internet, downloaded it, and opened it in Photoshop. Voilà! In a few minutes he had it.

But what to do with it? Send it to a few friends, of course, for their amusement. But might it have a use for the campaign? Hmm....

At last an idea came to him. He himself didn’t Tweet or Facebook, but he knew people who did. He began to send it to them with the suggestion that they might Tweet and Facebook it – and whatever else pertained – toward finding Republicans who might like the variation and want to use it.
“Tell them,” he told them, “they are welcome to print it huge for their yards, post it along roads, paste it to the sides of buildings, or even fly it in streamers behind small airplanes. Whatever they wish. And I don’t expect a royalty. Just tell them to give Goines the credit.”
