Second Monday Music: A curious kind of signature

Bass (below) and treble clefs
Treble clef signs

By Anonymous Brian

[Editor's Note: A treble clef is the most common clef used in musical notation. It was historically used to mark a treble, or pre-pubescent, voice part.]

Here's how a few different composers wrote their treble clef signs. What do you think their signatures reveal?

Here are some of my nominations:
Most Artistic – Debussy
Laziest – Beethoven
Messiest – Haydn
Most Modern – Schumann
Most Accurate – Schubert (or possibly Mozart)
[Editor's Note: Here, from Wikipedia, is an array of all the clef signs:]

  1. Loved this! It's also interesting to observe how composers draw note beams. I nominate Bach for elegance in that regard.
