By simple domestic beauty...

...dazzled

By Moristotle

Last evening, as I was bringing in the bird feeders (to protect the seeds and thistle from overnight deterioration from moisture), the waning light was just sufficient to dazzle me with the beauty of our back yard. Thanks to my almost always-handy smartphone for its adequate camera:

The final two photos are of individual Fuyu persimmons, two of approximately a dozen remaining after literally scores have fallen early from the tree, months from maturity – a few of the other survivors can be seen around the central beauties:

The opening sentence of today’s post comes from an email I wrote this morning to a dear relative who has reported that she currently feels overwhelmed. Selling a house, moving, dealing with a night-time device (new to her) to help her with severe sleep apnea, facing the prospect of maybe having to go on a blood-thinner....
She replied, “I think if I could sit in your back yard awhile, it would help a lot!”
I wish she didn’t live 3,000 miles away and could try it.

  1. Just beautiful, Morris. Persimmons are in our grocery stores in Western Australia right now. Thanks for sharing the photo's!

    1. Thank you, Vic. And I'm happy to report that more than 30 persimmons remain. I need to take a photo up from below – hopefully one in which all are visible.

  2. We have the Mexican petunias in our yard too. They attract the butterflies. They also go off the reservation if you give them half a chance!
