Thanks to Michael H. Brownstein for today’s challenging beginning, something quite different....
It points to a story in poem form. As Michael suggested in his submission: “Finish this as a poem poem, a prose poem, or even as a work of flash fiction.” I understand “flash fiction” to be a synonym for “short short story” (only a few hundred words).
Your challenge is to continue the narrative begun below (using the title indicated), revealing what has happened and how the characters deal with their situation. Tell the story in an engaging way and come to a satisfying – and hopefully surprising – conclusion, yet one that a careful reader might have foreseen. Go wherever the story (and your muse) may lead you.
If you know my email address, send your submission to it, either in the body of your email or as an attachment. Alternatively, use the Contact Form in our sidebar. We hope to hear from you before forever. Good luck!

We woke to a blue diamond sky,
a soft lover's caress from the south,
the world green-eyed wonderful
when Sausage escaped through the door,
ran to the alley, and—vanished.
Kidnapped, cried my wife.
Used to train fighting dogs, she screamed.
Stolen for medical experiments, she groaned.
