ReplyDeleteSeeing the Pileated Woodpecker up as close as we could through the fieldscope was truly thrilling—to think that we might have had a photo to go back and check whether, for example, it had a red spot on its cheek or red on top starting at the very front or only up a ways (markers for male/female).
At this point, I confess, we're not sure whether we were seeing a male or a female.
