One lone Chevy in the big back lot
(a pink poem)

By Geoffrey Dean

One lone Chevy in the big back lot
Grabs my eye as I find my spot.
No big deal, or so you might think –
’Cept this Chevy is a sparkling pink.

Brand-new make decked with custom paint
Ord’nary isn’t, no it just ain’t.
Seen it cruisin’ on down the street?
Cuz this ride’s really super sweet.

Owner’s got a thing, if you haven’t guessed,
For things pink, and she will invest
In pink shoes and clothes to wear,
Put pink highlights in her hair.

You hate pink, but ya do admit,
Her pink Chevy is a slam-dunk hit.
Cool pink things kinda make you stare –
She’s got style and she likes to share.

Color’s just a color, in the big grand scheme,
Hers is pink, it’s her big grand theme.
Make color food, then I’d surely gorge
On tonsa Chevys, ev’ry one bright orange.

  1. She must like the new pink chocolate: “Ruby chocolate, or couverture, makes its American debut. [Washington Post] I haven’t been able to find it yet; neither Whole Foods nor Trader Joe’s In Chapel Hill has it.

    1. The pink of the ruby couverture
      Might inspire a poetic tale.
It's so edible and so pure
      But alas, a little pale.

  2. Love this and love Pink. You captured a good piece of the soul of the color pink in these lines:
"Owner’s got a thing, if you haven’t guessed,
For things pink, and she will invest
In pink shoes and clothes to wear,
Put pink highlights in her hair."

I even included pink in my racing silks.

  3. Thanks, Bettina. Getting to the heart of a color poetically is quite the challenge! I admire how you (and the Chevy owner) celebrate pink and share it. There's a lot of soul in that!

I love that name Pink. It's my dogs name. He is a min-pin. Small but a speed king always getting away. Sweet.
