All Over the Place:
The language of blue

By Michael H. Brownstein

The squint of sky between twig and nettle
wallpapered azure, sapphire, soft blue:
Mark your soul, Mr. Bowerbird. Create
turrets of royal blue and cyan, Collect
pen tops, blue orchids, for-get-me-nots,

elderberries, purple figs, discarded food
wrappers. Protect your bride behind
your royal fortress. Let the sky whisper
into her song and flight; let the colors of blue
make her chicks stronger, quicker. Let
the brightness of day come alive in their eyes.

  1. ”Bowerbirds make up the bird family Ptilonorhynchidae. They are renowned for their unique courtship behaviour, where males build a structure and decorate it with sticks and brightly coloured objects in an attempt to attract a mate. The family has 20 species in eight genera.” –Wikipedia

  2. Full of pure impression, you see the sky, the blue, feel the wind. Good stuff Michael.
