Sketches from the Twin Cities:
Apocalyptic Haikus

Series I

By Geoffrey Dean

The guillotine fell,
its severing slice precise –
fine execution

If the earth were flat,
precipitously aslant
we’d all slide til… splat.

Five chambers empty,
bullet buried in – which one?
bring on the vodka

Parachuting high,
diving into cloudless sky –
pulling, praying…bye

Nearly nude, chillin’
after the last explosion –
fatally frozen*

* This haiku is titled “Apocalypse in brief(s).”

  1. Like the best vodka,
    all five haikus are good
    to the last drop!

  2. "Nearly nude..." "in briefs"-really good, many levels! Such an art, to compress so much into such short lines.
