Sunday Review: Turn (TV series)

Strong and true

By Morris Dean

Yesterday I said to my wife, "I miss Anna Strong. I want Season 2 of AMC's Turn to be here already." Alas, it won't return until Spring 2015, according to AMC's website.
Season 1 had ended only a couple of weeks earlier, with General George Washington's spy ring established and a stalemate's having been reached between the people of Setauket on Long Island and its occupying British forces.
That's right, General Washington had a spy ring, and we're told that the series is based on Alexander Rose’s history of the Culper Ring, Washington's Spies: The Story of America's First Spy Ring, itself based (according to Wikipedia) "on the stories of four real-life childhood friends." Three main male characters seem to be modeled on them:

Caleb Brewster, Abraham Woodhull...Benjamin Tallmadge
And between Abe and Ben that's Anna Strong, whom I most miss. She's so heroic and strong!
And, as my wife acknowledges, actress Heather Lind wears those period costumes rather eye-turningly.

  1. If you missed Season 1 of AMC's Turn, use the off-season to catch up before Season 2 starts in the Spring of next year.
