Tuesday Voice: Heavenly

Detail from "Sunset"
Paintings by Shirley Deane/Midyett

By Vic Midyett

Shirley has completed two new paintings, both commissioned.

"Pelican" was requested by a business office in Perth, whose owner loves Pelicans.
"Pelican" (18" x 20")

"Sunset" was commissioned by a good friend of hers as a birthday present to her doctor husband this coming June. She is a former psychiatrist now studying to be an attorney at 50 yrs old! Gotta love it! Her instructions were for "an ocean/beach scene with pelican, a boat wreck, sunset, and sail boat."
"Sunset" (2ft x 4ft)

Shirley hadn't painted for weeks, following our trip back to the west coast and getting resettled here. After such a long drought, she's in hog heaven! [Editor's Note: An expression that apparently immigrated to Australia from the American South.]

  1. I'm the proud owner of a Shirley original, a small painting
of the beach in Belize I once visited, and it
    sits in my living room.

    1. Ballarat! Isn't that where the TV series The Doctor Blake Mysteries is set?
