In Remembrance Rolf Dumke

(July 16, 1941 - February 29, 2020)
A prolific writer

By Moristotle

In view of the passing of columnist Rolf Dumke, a former IBM colleague of mine sent a link to the list of Rolf’s prolific writings on WorldCat, “the world’s largest network of library content and services.” Here’s a link to Rolf’s list at Dumke, Rolf H. - WorldCat Identities.
The list, which includes “24 works in 49 publications in 2 languages and 127 library holdings,” is headed “Most widely held works by Rolf H Dumke.” Its titles include:
  • German economic unification in the 19th century: the political economy of the Zollverein by Rolf H Dumke (Book). 4 editions published in 1994 in English and German and held by 39 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
  • The political economy of German economic unification: tariffs, trade and politics of the Zollverein era by Rolf H Dumke (Book). 16 editions published between 1976 and 1984 in English and held by 22 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
  • Economic inequality and industrialization in Germany: 1850-1913 by Rolf H Dumke (Book). 3 editions published in 1987 in English and German and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Each title links to a library citation. For example, for the third item I just listed:

Of course, not many of us are the right readers for these scholarly works, which WorldCat acknowledges by labeling their audience “special.” Still, Rolf deserves to be recognized for who he was...in addition to, and before he was, the ranging memoirist who brought us his poignant installments of “Growing Up in America.”
