A very good question, that first fish today,I came across some stats about wolves in the north, "The Mackenzie Valley Wolf," while reading "The Mexican Gray Wolf Recovery Program" and the "2012 Mexican Wolf Population Survey."
For there is no theme. But for next week, pray
Tell us what makes you grouse
When your friend or your spouse
Does or says something that wears you away.
According to the website, male northern wolves weigh 100-140 pounds, can hit 40 mph in a burst of speed, and "a combination of powerful jaw and neck muscles allows them to break bones and bring down large prey."
In thinking more about the plot of the movie The Grey, I would say if one of these wolves put its mind to killing a man armed with a broken bottle, the man should be very glad he was only a character in a movie. I've seen them in the wild, but I never realized they were that big. Same mistake I made with hyenas—I always thought they were about the size of a Labrador retriever, until a bunch of them showed up around my tent one night in Africa. Turns out the female hyenas weigh up to 250 pounds, not the easiest thing to scare off with a camera flash and a couple of pots to bang together.
A contact in Sweden wants me to find him some MX riding gear, which is of course cheaper here than there. So I asked him when his motorcycle riding season begins. Here is his response: "The sesong here is all year long. From nov until mars we drive with spiketire. Had a nightrace last saturday with minus 8 celsius and snow."
Not that there was any doubt, but our greatly diluted Viking blood has created a bunch of sissies here compared to there. Can you imagine any of the local motorcyclists out riding when it is 18 degrees?
